    V6 AND SECURITY

  09.00
Ciprian Popoviciu, Nephos6 Latest Developments in IPv6 Security

Presenting the latest developments in IPv6 security from a standardization and best practices perspective. IPv6 is a live protocol and will continue to evolve based on the experience we gain through deployment, operations and innovation.

Ciprian Popoviciu | President and CEO | nephos6

  09.20
Balancing End-user Security and End-to-end Connectivity

How can a SP fulfill  the promise of IPv6 end-to-end connectivity? Some CPE act as the IPv4 NAPT and block all inbound traffic, others are simply accepting all inbound traffic. Describing a new IETF draft which tries to balance security and connectivity by allowing inbound traffic except for some exceptions. This design is currently in use by one European provider.

Ragnar Anfinsen | Altibox

09.40 Security Headaches Caused by Fragmentation

In the IPv4 world, it was common to use Access Control List (ACL) in a stateless manner, notably in routers and switches, to enforce a ‘good enough’ security. In IPv6, this may well not be the case as fragmentation in IPv6 is different than in IPv4. Presenting the technical differences but also the security issues caused in stateless IPv6 firewall.

IPv6 Intrusion Detection Research Project
Carsten Rossenhövel, EANTC Even though the IPv6-Standard RFC 2460 has been approved for more than 12 years, there is still a certain lack of IPv6 network security expertise. Taking this into account, we created a set of firewall tests and set up an IPv6 honeynet as part of the project IPv6 IDS. The project is a collaboration between the Potsdam University, Beuth Hochschule Berlin, EANTC and STRATO and is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

World IPv6 Launch Results and Statistics
Phil Roberts, ISOC Discussing what needs to be migrated to IPv6 and specific steps to get there, and also presenting some case studies and World IPv6 Launch results and statistics.
Deploy360 provides real-world IPv6 deployment information including detailed, technical how-to resources and educational articles, best current operational practices, case studies, and other in-depth information.

Panel - How to Measure IPv6?

There are multiple point of views and metrics about IPv6 world-wide deployment. This panel is about all those metrics and checking which one is the more relevant among IPv6 enabled web sites, traffic at Internet Exchange, residential penetration as measure by popular web sites or by the use of P2P programs, network prefixes allocation by RIR and their announces on BGP, polling ISP and enterprises, ...

    Deployments and Implementations

  14.00 IPv6 in OSS/BSS: Looking beyond Connectivity

Describing challenges of deploying IPv6 associated with IT systems and how it affects the whole mobile operations environment. It also demonstrates how, through careful assessment and thorough planning for IPv6 deployment including these businesses critical supporting systems, can help mobile operators to overcome these issues.

William Rubin | Ericsson

  14.30
Phil Roberts, ISOC Implementing IPv6 in RCS & RDS Network

More than 1 million RCS & RDS residential customers can now use native IPv6 on a dual stack PPPoE connection and 20% already do. Discussing this achievement, more specifically the history of IPv6 in this network, success factors and obstacles that we encountered.

Liviu Pislaru | IP Design Network Architect | RCS & RDS

15.00 Semantic IPv6 Prefix for Network Operations

Phil Roberts, ISOC IPv6, with a large address space, allows semantics to be embedded into addresses. Introducing a framework and relevant considerations that embeds semantics into IPv6 prefixes, so that network devices can treat packets based on these explicit semantics.

Sheng Jiang | Senior Staff Engineer | Huawei Technologies

  15.30 Unified Intelligent IPv6 Deployment

Introducing a unified IPv6 transition technology platform, which provides another way to deploy IPv6 in a cost effective way and may be used to create a specific network cloud for IPv6.

Linda Dunbar, Tina Tsou | HUAWEI

  16.00 Kabel Deutschland Use Case

Presenting Kabel Deutschland field trial of Dual Stack-Lite as an IPv4 to IPv6 transition technology. Describing the deployment of IPv4/IPv6 native dual-stack on a cable infrastructure.

Kabel Deutschland Vertrieb

    16.30
Wim Henderickx IPV6 the Transition is Here

Providing an overview of the study that ETSI conducted regarding implementing IPv6 in MSO(s). Overviewing the best practices to introduce IPv6 and highlighting the transition techniques that were selected to deal with IPv4 exhaustion for fixed and mobile users.

Wim Henderickx
| Director Consulting Engineering IP |
