David Allanis a Distinguished Engineer at Ericsson, and a former distinguished member of technical staff at Nortel. He has been active in data telecommunications standards for the past 16 years. He has been active for over 25 years as an architect, design engineer, and developer of real-time systems in diverse areas of technology ranging from process control and avionics to financial transaction processing. His current role at Ericsson is focused on carrier infrastructure based on MPLS and Ethernet. He co-chairs the End-to-End Architecture committee at the Broadband Forum and was recently honored there as a Distinguished Fellow.

Valéry Augais is a senior network architect in Colt’s Strategy and Architecture team. He joined Colt’s engineering department in 1998 as an access and metro technologies specialist. His current focus is on the modular integration of the Optical, Ethernet and IP layers with the aim of simplifying the transport and service architectures. Hector Avalos has 20 years of experience in the data communication industry. He currently holds the position of Director of Business Strategy and Programs within Ericsson’s IP and Broadband Product Area (PAIB).
Over the past 3 years Hector worked within Ericsson as Dir. of Technology, Architectures and Solutions where he was responsible of developing and supporting the Mobile Backhaul, Mobile Packet Core and Converged Packet/Optical Metro business solutions.
Prior to Ericsson, Hector worked 9 years at Juniper Networks as Technical Director, where he built and managed the pre-sales engineering team for Southern Europe and the consulting engineering team for EMEA. At Juniper, Hector worked in providing network design assistance to service providers deploying IP/MPLS core and Multi-play networks.
Hector also worked as Network Consultant for 3Com and Proteon designing data networks for large enterprise and service providers in EMEA.
Hector possesses a BSc. in Computing Science from ‘Universidad de las Americas’ in Mexico.

Thomas Beckhaus DEUTSCHE TELEKOM

Thomas Beckhaus works at Deutsche Telekom and is responsible for the network architecture of the fixed/mobile network of the converged fixed/mobile business unit.
Thomas has joined Deutsche Telekom in 1996. Since 2004, Thomas is responsible for the technology architecture of the Triple Play enabled IP/MPLS network of Deutsche Telekom. He has designed the Seamless-MPLS approach consisting of access, aggregation and backbone and he was involved in the first GbE based mobile backhaul installation within Deutsche Telekom.
With the extension of 3G/4G to additional LTE-Advanced capabilities, he is defining the network architecture to enable the platform to satisfy the extended requirements of an LTE-Advanced mobile backhaul and optimize for mass market support.

Previously, Matthew provided advanced technical consulting in traffic management, signaling and network performance. He holds a PhD in ATM network modeling from Queen Mary & Westfield College, London, and a B.Eng(hons)(1st class) degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University College London. He is a member of Alcatel-Lucent Technical Academy and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Claudio Coltro was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1960 and graduated from the Universidad Tecnologica Nacional with an Automatic Control Electronic Engineering Degree in1985.
After working in Argentina, Brasil, Australia and England in various private data networks design and R&D projects, Claudio joined Alcatel in Australia for the development of SDH systems in 1990 and later was transferred to Italy, continuing with system design, standardization and network architectural activities in optical transmission technologies.

Dr. Luyuan Fang has over 20 years of experience in the networking and computing industries. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Flinders University of South Australia in 1991. Her early computing work includes Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks for combinatorial optimization, pattern recognition. Since 2000, she has worked extensively in IP/MPLS architectural design and engineering, she gained firsthand experience while working as a lead architect in AT&T’s IP MPLS and L3 VPN design and deployment. Luyuan joined Cisco in 2006, she is currently Principle Engineer in Cisco. She has worked on Carrier Ethernet, DC inter-connect, and MPLS-TP for Packet Transport technologies and products, with close customer engagement. Luyuan has been an active contributor in IETF since 2000. She has co-authored/contributed 14 RFCs in the MPLS, L2/L3 VPN, and TE areas. Luyuan has been a frequent speaker for several prominent MPLS and Carrier Ethernet Conferences worldwide for the last 12 years. Michael Frendo is the Vice President of Architecture at Infinera. He joined Infinera in 2010 and in his role is responsible for the hardware, software and optical architecture for Infinera’s full suite of products. Prior to joining Infinera, Michael was General Manager, Unified Communications Solutions Business Unit at Avaya and responsible for the Integration of the Nortel Enterprise Solutions Business into Avaya.
Past roles included Senior Vice President and General Manager, High-End Security Systems (HSS) Business Unit at Juniper Networks. While there he was responsible for the leadership of the security and network traffic visibility technologies and products. Ori Gerstel

Ori Gerstel is a Principal Engineer at Cisco, where he is responsible for identifying opportunities for integration of routers and transport technologies, such as the IP over DWDM architecture. Prior to this, Ori was in charge of Cisco’s Optical Advanced Technology team, and is the key inventor behind advanced capabilities of Cisco’s DWDM product. Before joining Cisco in 2002, he was a Senior Systems Architect for Nortel Networks’ MEMS based photonic crossconnect product. Until 2000, Ori was the Systems and Software Architect for the Optical Networking Group at Tellabs, where he architected the first commercial mesh DWDM system (TITAN 7100). Prior to that, he performed early optical networking research at IBM Research.
Ori authored over 70 papers in international conferences and journals and over 35 patents on optical networks. He served on conference committees, such as OFC and INFOCOM and has been the technical co-chair of Broadnets and IPoP. He also serves as an editor for several international journals such as JOCN and has been teaching short courses at OFC. Ori holds a Ph.D. degree from the Technion, Israel and is an IEEE Fellow.

Kireeti Kompella is CTO and Chief Architect, Junos at Juniper Networks.

Julian Lucek is a Distinguished Systems Engineer at Juniper Networks, where he has been working with many operators on the design and evolution of their networks. Before joining Juniper Networks in 1999, he worked at BT for several years, at first in the Photonics Research Department and later in the data transport and routing area. During this time he gained a PhD in ultrahigh-speed data transmission and processing from Cambridge University. He is the holder of several patents in the area of communications technology. He has a Master's degree in Physics from Cambridge University and holds Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert (JNCIE) certification number 21. He is co-author of the book "MPLS-Enabled Applications: Emerging Developments and New Technologies", by Ina Minei and Julian Lucek. The third edition of this book was published in 2011.

Juan Rodriguez Martinez TELEFONICA

Juan Rodriguez received his Electrical Engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), Spain. In 2004, he joined Telefónica I+D (Research & Development) in Madrid, being since then involved in data networking related European projects, both IST and CELTIC. He was also a participant in a National Spanish funded project, dealing with network intelligence mechanisms.
Currently, he is working as a Technological Specialist at the “Scalable Multilayer Photonic Networks” Initiative in Telefónica I+D, leading the R&D activities on the evolution of MPLS. Topics of interest include MPLS architectures end-to-end, GMPLS, MPLS-TP or multipoint services.

Pat Moore will have worked at Metaswitch (previously known as Data Connection) for 25 years next month. His various positions at Metaswitch have covered a broad spectrum of roles, including R&D, support and sales. In his current role as Director of Business Development for Metaswitch’s Network Technologies, he works closely with partners and customers to ensure that Metaswitch continues to deliver the network solutions that OEMs and carriers demand.
Prior to Metaswitch, Pat worked in the academic community. Following an MA in Physics from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Manchester, he worked for six years as a researcher in Radio Astronomy at Jodrell Bank (UK) and the Very Large Array (NM). In addition to astronomical research, his work included the development of image processing algorithms.
Pat extensive experience in control plane and client-server technologies extends back to the early days of SNA and ATM. For the last 12 years he has concentrated on IP, MPLS and most recently Software Defined Networking.

Maria Napierala is a Technology Architect at AT&T Laboratories, since 1994. Her recent work is in the cell-site backhaul and Enhanced Packet Core designs for AT&T LTE deployment, Her other interests are in areas of large scale IP/MPLS backbone routing, MPLS traffic engineering, multicast, and MPLS applications such as VPNs. Prior to joining AT&T worked as a senior software engineer in Network Routing Systems group at IBM. Before joining telecommunications industry she carried extensive research in automated theorem proving and constructive logic. She presented papers at several international symposia on Mathematical Logic.

Yaakov (J) Stein is CTO of RAD Data Communications (Tel Aviv). He also lectures at Tel Aviv University and actively participates in IETF (where he co-chairs the TICTOC working group) and other standardization forums. He has authored numerous articles, patents, and standards, and the textbook “Digital Signal Processing, a Computer Science Perspective” (Wiley:2000).
Before joining RAD he was Advanced Technology Manager for Comverse Information Systems, DSP and Neural Network team leader with Efrat Future Technologies, Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science at Polytechnic University (NY), and Research Scientist with the Israel Ministry of Defense.
He holds a BSc in physics, mathematics and computer science, and MSc and PhD in theoretical physics, all from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was recipient of the Israel Defense Award (Israel’s highest award for defense-related research).
His current areas of interest include timing and synchronization, OAM and performance monitoring, modems and DSL, communications security and encryption, speech coding and recognition, pattern recognition and neural networks, and all aspects of DSP.

Since 2008, Product Strategy Manager in the Wireless Transmission division of Alcatel-Lucent.
His function deals with the evolution strategy and positioning of ALU’s microwave product portfolio. His interests include networking and mobile backhauling, specifically in the LTE domain.
He has been working for more than 20 years in TLC. Prior to joining Alcatel-Lucent, Paolo worked for Wind, the second largest operator in Italy, as Network Architect; Infostrada, an Italian fixed operator, in Network Planning; and Italtel, in R&D.
Paolo has a degree in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan; and owns a master in “Marketing & Communication”.
He’s currently involved in NGMN (Next Generation Mobile Networks) in the workgroup devoted to the evolution of mobile backhaul networks to support the introduction of LTE and 4G services. In this role he co-edited two white papers on LTE backhauling and Security in LTE backhauling.
At present he is contributing to a paper focused on the backhauling for small cells.

Rami is the Vice President of Technology and Business Development for the Fusion product line at Dragonwave, a leading provider of high-capacity packet/hybrid microwave radios and pseudo wire Ethernet switches. His responsibilities include: technology and standards, mobile backhaul network design for network providers and WSPs, and strategic product management.

Rami has over 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He is an active participant at both the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) and the Broadband Forum (BBF). Within the MEF he is a member of the Mobile Backhaul (MBH) sub-committee as well as an MBH ambassador for the Americas. At the BBF Rami is a member of both the Network Core and the Architecture groups and he also serves as an ambassador.
